Villa Nóva Víta, in Salvador do Mundo, |
This impressive colonial renaissance bungalow, located in the quiet village of Salvador do Mundo, was originally a handsomely appointed Portuguese club named `Le Bougainvillea`. Meticulously rebuilt from the ruins of the club, this elegant Portuguese style bungalow with high ceilings, courtyards, verandahs and lots of natural light takes one back to an earlier, lingering time. The original space has been reconfigured into an elegant residence comprising three distinct wings. The newly added bedrooms accommodate larger groups of residents and visitors, while the expansive common areas are ideal for entertaining. A truly unique structure, the entire bungalow is elevated above the main road and entrance gates, and accessed by a grand tiered staircase. As a result, most of the bedrooms and the verandah are at eye level with the palms and other trees surrounding the bungalow, offering residents the feel of being in a private tree-house. The bungalow, has been renovated and styled by the eminent designer Tarun Tahiliani with a chic blend of antique and contemporary furnishings. Unique wall pieces are complemented by intricately carved wooden frames, and beautiful chandeliers illuminate the various pieces of art and craft that dot each room. Le Bougainvillea is located in a verdant three-villa enclave, with approximately 1400 square yards of land reserved exclusively for its own private use. | The main staircase is flanked by stepped gardens on either side, and leads to the central wing of the bungalow. This main wing includes an entrance foyer, a wide front verandah tiled in black and white marble, the open and airy living and dining areas, a luxurious study or television room, a common powder room, and a guest bedroom that opens directly onto the verandah, with a bathroom en suite. The private courtyard, onto which the living room opens out, includes sit-out areas, an emerald marble swimming pool with Balinese rock pots, and high screened walls. To the left of the central wing is a private two-level bedroom wing, arranged around another tiled private courtyard with a lotus pond and an ancient tree trunk winding through it. This wing includes two bedrooms on the lower level and two on the upper level, including the master suite. Each spacious bedroom has a large bed and an en suite bathroom, and overlooks both the courtyard and the trees around the perimeter of the bungalow. The master bedroom also includes a spacious walk-in wardrobe. On the right side of the central wing, just off the entrance foyer, is the service wing of the bungalow, which includes a large kitchen, fitted with granite countertops, built-in cupboards, and appliances including a stove and oven. In addition, the service wing houses two staff quarters and a staff bathroom.
